Melrose Abbey is a 1922 Gothic church in midtown Kansas City with a 35-foot suspended domed ceiling, original stained glass and a real center aisle. It holds 200 guests across two floors, and it is available for $3,750 Monday through Thursday and $7,500 on Sunday. For a celebration built around a grand entrance and photographs that last, the room does work no hall can.
Yes. The building is a real church, deconsecrated, which means you may bring your own priest, pastor or deacon and hold whatever portion of the celebration your family observes. There is no membership requirement and no restriction on the officiant you choose. Families who want the ceremony and the party in one building do exactly that here.
Yes, and we would be glad to. An engagement celebration, a katb el-kitab, a henna night or a family reception all work in this building — the sanctuary for the formal portion, the reception floor for dinner and dancing, and the balcony above for family and photographs. The owners are an Egyptian-American family, and we understand that these celebrations run long, run large and are family-led.
The building is well suited to it. Because we book one event per day for a full 14 hours, and because the guest suites upstairs sleep 24, a family can hold consecutive days of celebration in one place with close family staying on site. Weekday dates make a multi-day booking genuinely affordable.
The full building is $3,750 Monday through Thursday, $7,500 Friday and Sunday, and $8,500 Saturday, for 14 hours and exclusive use — both event floors, the balcony, the bar and the warming kitchen. Catering, bar service and décor are arranged separately. Most non-wedding celebrations book midweek or Sunday.
